Red Mulberry (Morus rubra) Mulberry trees are fast growers when young but slow as they age. Mulberry trees are robust and have few pests or diseases. Mulberries were a favorite of the famous Roman chronicler Pliny the Elder who called it the “Wise Fruit” because it only flowers after the last of the winter’s frosts are over. The wood is very yellow when fresh cut but will turn a brown/orange with age.
